Competing in one of the hardest wellness categories

Heyyy is a UK men's wellness subscription offering ED treatment, hair loss solutions, and fat loss support.

The problem:

  • Men's wellness subscriptions compete against Hims, Manual and Numan — all with 8-figure marketing budgets
  • Sensitive product categories (ED, hair loss) require trust and discretion
  • Subscription commitment is a harder sell than a one-time purchase
  • Premium pricing (£60+/month) requires premium presentation
  • Target customers are skeptical, burned by ineffective products and scammy wellness marketing

Industry context: Standard wellness ad CTR: 2–4%

What they needed:

Product visuals and ad creatives that would:

  • Stand out in UK wellness-saturated social feeds
  • Build trust with skeptical buyers for sensitive products
  • Justify subscription commitment, not just a one-time trial
  • Remove stigma from men's health topics
  • Compete visually against established brands with massive budgets

Built a complete visual system for the brand launch

Product Renders:

  • 20+ render variations across all SKUs
  • Hero shots, lifestyle contexts, detail shots
  • 4 primary variations testing different angles (used as ad creatives)
  • Trust signal emphasis (science-backed, discreet packaging)
  • Animated GIFs for website

Platforms: Meta ads, website, Instagram, Facebook

Timeline: 2 months (full product line)

All four creatives beat the benchmark

Every ad cleared the 2–4% wellness industry standard. The best performing creative hit 8.26% CTR — more than 4x the category benchmark.

Campaign totals:

  • 6,970 link clicks
  • £0.06–£0.13 average cost per click
  • 5.8% average CTR across all 4 ad creatives

Three factors drove the performance

The 5.8% CTR did not happen by accident.

1

Premium but Approachable Aesthetic

The renders avoided two extremes:

  • Not overly clinical/medical (would feel cold, pharmaceutical)
  • Not overly lifestyle/aspirational (would feel unrealistic)

Instead: Clean, confident, normalized. Premium quality without being intimidating.

Why it worked: Men subscribing to wellness products want solutions, not shame. The renders removed stigma while maintaining credibility.
2

Trust Signal Hierarchy

Every render emphasized:

  • Product quality (materials, packaging details)
  • Science-backed positioning (subtle clinical cues)
  • Professional, discreet presentation
  • Subscription value (monthly delivery positioning)
Why it worked: Subscription services require extra trust. The renders communicated "legitimate long-term solution" — not "one-time quick fix."
3

Platform Optimization

Each render was designed to work as a standalone ad creative:

  • Scroll-stopping composition (no heavy text needed)
  • Clear focal point (product hero)
  • Mobile-first framing
  • Clean backgrounds that work across platforms
Why it worked: Product-focused renders allowed the visuals to carry the message without relying on heavy copy. In UK wellness feeds saturated with established brands, clean quality stood out.

Three questions that determine the direction of every wellness visual project

1.
Who exactly is buying this?

Not demographics. Psychographics. For Heyyy: Men seeking legitimate solutions to sensitive issues — discretion and results, not shame.

2.
What do they need to feel to buy?

For subscription wellness: Trust (will this work?), confidence (worth recurring cost?), safety (legitimate brand?).

3.
What is this competing against?

For Heyyy: Established UK brands (Hims, Manual, Numan) with massive budgets. Needed premium positioning without feeling inaccessible.

This project proved the framework. I now apply these three questions at the start of every project, before a single render is created.
